☀️ HELPFUL TIPS ☀️
Learn a beautiful fingerstyle piece inspired by the spirit of aloha. Last year, I found myself in Hawaii for a week. It was my second visit to the islands, but my first as an adult. To say I was blown away by the natural beauty would be an understatement!
But what I wasn’t expecting was to be taken aback by the kindness and warmth of the Hawaiian people. Their friendliness left a lasting impression, which inspired this composition. While my time there was short, the memories will last a lifetime.
Note: This song ends with harmonics being played on the 7th fret. If you need help with this te...

My immediate ukulele future is the Uke Fest Of Great Britain. Looking forward to your workshop Matt👍
m.ruclips.net/video/XSbmg8SmVis/видео.html Here's the strumstick, a finger picking lesson by Bob macnally who sort of invented it I believe.
As well as the ukulele being accessible the uke community, at all levels seems so friendly and accepting. To get personal replies to questions from top flight players (James Hill and Victoria Vox for example) is amazing. Couldn't imagine a similar situation in the classical guitar world. So many people give their time to help and advise either free or for not very much (around a tenner a month for most sites) is just great.
Great discussion. Some lovely stories. I played the classical guitar for around 40 years and flack picked a steel string for several more. Found rock class 101 on the Web and was inspired to buy a uke about 18 months ago. So accessible. Never had so much fun with music . Selling my mandolin and one of my guitars to finance my uke habit.
I think you nailed. I’m from a family of musicians and my entire life I’ve been around guitars but tried 3 different times and can’t get it. Never made a full song. At my 47’s now it came across with an Uke and the first I thought was “this is a toy from Hawaii”, 3 months in to it and so far I have 5 songs I can play and I’m enjoying it a lot. It suuuuper easy IMO. My guitars are decorating the walls on my house waiting for me to have time to list them for sale. So far tried soprano, concert and I’m stuck now with tenor. When I grow up I want to be like you. It’s sooooo much that can be done on an Uke and not just what my ignorance saw at the beginning (the Hawaiian toy) that it’s crazy.
Jake played his part in what could be played on a ukulele I believe the tone woods that are gaining popularity in more recent years have helped change peoples perception of what a ukulele really sound like take that oli you have for example imagine having that 20years ago
This is so timely! I just listened to a James Hill podcast yesterday about him teaming up with an Indian artist to introduce playing Ragas on ukuleles - “Ragalele”. Yet another field never considered even by him!
Good conversation. The uke was my intro to music at an old age and it has been a wonderful journey.
Really beautiful and interesting ideas! The idea of art being passed on through generations and the expanding reach of what's possible is very inspiring. Ha, I guess we don't have to worry about any Ukebots any time soon; thank goodness AI don't have a full corporeal form. Yet. 😉😅😂 That thumbnail is hilarious by the way! 😅 Thank you for another perf lesson! 😊
I am going to see Jake this Friday and I can not wait!
Thank you, loved your content. Beautifully expressed 🎵🎶🎵
Great conversation Matt

Id prefer if the student plays both hands correctly !
Of course, that’s what we’d all prefer. 😅 And he’s teaching us how to get there.
Love this arrangement and great tutorial, thank you!
very inspiring
Excellent. Very clear...I managed to write down everything as you went. Fabulous.
maybe the quality control problem its cause of when you buy online ukes that usually happens
I had purchased some ukes, but after I watched YT "Honoka & Azita Miserlou", I immediately bought a Kanilea - and never looked back!!
Fantastic version.
That’s a happy sound
You are wonderful. I've learned so much. I'm kinda new. Thanks
What make of ukulele isn't just junk?
Many thanks Andrew for telling us how to practise! You are a great teacher!
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! 😊
Down to Earth --> Thanks!
Love this. Thank you Andrew and Mika. Happy to be a member of rockclass101 so I can download the tabs!
Thank you Ilene, I appreciate your support! 😊
This is delightful. I love it. Thanks.
I love this lesson!
Very lovely tune indeed! It has the same fingerpicking pattern as Etude No. 5 which is my favorite RC101 etude. I may have missed if that was mentioned. The pattern just sounds different on low G, obvs. 😊 I just wanted to say really quick about the "red light approach" to ending the tune. Another way you could end the tune is the "yellow light approach" which is when you speed up crazy fast to make it through the yellow light last second before it turns red - but imagine applying that to playing this tune. 😂 I'm cry laughing about that... 😂😅😂 Definitely not recommending anyone do that while actually driving, of course... Cough... 😳 Thank you for your great lessons! 😊

What to do to keep all our used strings out of the landfill? Can they be recycled ♻️ or is there an organization that reuses or modifies them for other purpose? What can you tell me?
Something by beatles
Thank you 🎶
But what does the F mean above that? 4:35
It means the harmony for that measure is based out of an F major chord.
You have a lot of tips I haven't seen elsewhere. I'm really SO happy to know about stretching the finger reach with regular practice! I can't reach more than three frets. I'll try turning my index to the side as you suggest and keep trying daily. Do you have any tips on reaching the pinky up to the G string? Impossible for me. I do drop my wrist down so my fingers can curl up over the strings. Also, why is it so hard to keep the first knuckle bent so the fingertip stays perpendicular to the string? Amazing how well Bernadette and Cynthia Lin can do it. With all my difficulties, it's weird that I keep trying to learn this instrument. Thanks for posting this great video!
Check out these 3 exercises for help with increasing left hand reach, specifically with the pinky: rockclass101.com/increasing-left-hand-reach-ukulele/ Try to include them as part of your warmup routine and please note that it takes awhile until you start to see a difference. "Also, why is it so hard to keep the first knuckle bent so the fingertip stays perpendicular to the string?" Sounds like you are talking about barring. If so, you might have gotten use to bending that knuckle. Try to make a conscious effort to correct it. This lesson covers proper left hand form for barring and fretting notes/chords: rockclass101.com/proper-left-hand-ukulele-form/
@@RockClass101 - Thank you for the stretch exercises. I definitely need to do these. Not good at reading tabs yet, but I can figure it out. (By the way, I meant to say I can't stretch more than four frets.) As for the knuckle, I guess I have my knuckle numbers mixed up. I meant the knuckle closest to the tip, but I need help with barring chords, too, so the link you provided will help me with that. I'll also share that with a friend who is unable to bar. Thank you for your help!
My pleasure! This lesson will help with reading tabs: rockclass101.com/how-to-read-tabs-chord-graphs-and-chart-symbols/
@@RockClass101 - Excellent, thank you!
Than you! So many don’t teach strumming techniques and this is very important for beginners
This is an especially beautiful one. Lovely sound.
Loved this lesson, thank you❤
Haha! Super cool😂
Thank you. My friend and I followed along and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos. x
Awesome
matt I just discovered your stuff not too long ago. This, with your analogy of Hero's Journey followed by a discussion of rubato, well, you are an amazingly brilliant musician. And guy.
TY so much for the kind words, Kevin!

Very cool😎
Love it

What a great video! Didn't expect the authenticity and depth your provided. I was still a bit unsure about buying a uke as I already have a guitar, but the ukulele, as you presented, feels like an instrument of pure creative outlet. Being able to sustain a wide range of finger-plucked notes, due to the high G, is a huge plus. And those camera focus/transitions! <3
Thank you for the kind words, Ani! Congrats on your soon-to-be uke! When you get it, check out this page for some ideas on where to start learning: rockclass101.com/learning-paths/
